I really enjoyed this book. I haven’t read the first book in the series and I didn’t feel confused or lost at all. Lawson works with his two best friends as a bounty hunter. Willow has recently moved to town to start over after leaving her abusive husband. There was just something about the town that made her want to start over there instead of where she had planned. She never expected to meet a man like Lawson. He stirs something inside of her. Lawson is taken by Willow. He knows that he needs to go slow with her and be gentle. He isn’t known for dating but there is just something different about Willow. Willow’s past isn’t done with her though. Her ex is going to let her go so easily. Will Lawson be able to convince Willow that she is it for him and protect her or will her past catch her? Lawson has a temper and when Willow is in danger it goes off the charts. Willow had a horrible childhood and her young adult life wasn’t much better. She just wants to be happy and find real love. Could Lawson be it for her? I really enjoyed this book. I have put the first one on my TBR list and look forward to the next one in the series. Great job ladies.

"Come on, princess. I think you remember that you liked kissing me."

"Fuck you, Phineas."

"Yes, yes. You keep saying that, and we'll get to that. But you know, kissing first. I love to kiss. Goddamn, it's one of my favorite things. It's like dancing. Learning the rhythm. I bet if you give me half the chance, I can make you come just with my kisses."

I couldn't help it, I swallowed hard at the thought. I bet he could. But how did he get so good at it?

Lots and lots of practice.

Yes, I had to focus on that.

Phineas tsked. "Uh-uh, Aurora, don't do that. Focus on my voice. I know you remember kissing me. I know you liked it. When has anyone else kissed you so good?"

I opened my mouth to argue. I really did. But he was right. And he knew it, goddamn it. "I'm not having this conversation with you."

"Yeah, you are." He leaned in, placing a light kiss at my temple. My body practically seized. It wasn't my fault that I had leaned into him. It wasn't my fault that I practically moaned as he trailed kisses along my jaw.

"Phineas, I don't like you."

It pains me to see her glance around this old house, staring at it as if she’s never really seen it before. The truth has been revealed about her stepfather, who her real dad is, and what happened to her mom. I can tell by the look on her face she feels like she’s lived a lie.

I’d never lie to her.

Gun to my head, knife to my throat, Reaper’s hand around my heart, I’d rather die than lie to my Comet.

She looks sadly around the house that held so many lies and so much deception. I thought the truth would wiggle her mind free and she’d come back to me, but we are right where we have been for a while now. If the truth doesn’t set her free, I don’t know what will.

Maybe it’s time for me to face the truth. Maybe Daphne won’t ever get her memory back and while it hurts, I’ll adapt.

Because that’s what love does.

I hurt for her, though. All those memories we built are just gone. The strength she’s had to use to get to where she is today has disappeared. It’s unfair for her not to get it back. She deserves to know and remember everything she has accomplished in life.

“I can’t believe I lived here with a monster,” she says, interrupting the stillness of the house.

It’s the first time we have been back since the day at the hospital. The day I almost lost her because of her stepfather’s selfish behavior. Many people died that day, but she didn’t.

So I took her to the NOLA Clubhouse where I knew she’d be safe. I’m glad I made that choice because she didn’t want to come back here until she was ready. Her Aunt Tina calls every day to check in on her, but Daphne has yet to talk to her.

Daphne is angry at Tina for keeping the truth about Mercy from her for so long. She hasn’t spoken to Mercy either. She wants to. I can tell. I don’t think my Comet knows how to open herself up to Mercy or her aunt after knowing the truth. For some reason, she can’t remember her own truth, so why would she want to talk about the truth with others?

Daphne confides in me, but there are times where she keeps me at arm’s length. We are nowhere near the couple we used to be before all this… fucking shit happened.

I’d follow Daphne to the ends of the earth, but that doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to be angry and tired.

I miss her. I miss us so much. I miss her touch. I miss sleeping next to her. I don’t know what else to do. Not even Happy makes her… happy.

Speaking of the best boy in the world, I squat and dig into my pocket for a treat and toss it to him. His jaws snap and his tail flicks. My big boy can only wear a harness now. He grew out of his collar. “Aren’t you so good?” I scratch under his chin, and he opens his jaws slightly, smiling when I hit his favorite spot. Bullseye and Reaper did me a big favor when they made a quick trip to bring me Happy a few months back.

There’s a piece of chicken hanging in his tooth, and I reach in and pluck it, placing it on his tongue. I’m never scared of him biting me. He is gentle with a select few people. Me, Daphne, and Slingshot… sometimes. Poor taco-loving bastard has a few scars on his arm from getting nicked one too many times. At the end of the day, he is still a predator, but a loving one at that.

Kind of like me, I guess.

Happy is wearing his emotional support vest, which never fails to get a few stares as I walk him every day.

Daphne is sitting on the floor in one of my oversized t-shirts, sniffling as she cries and wipes her cheek. She holds out her arms and Happy scurries across the floor and climbs into her lap, placing his head right on her shoulder. She sobs as she slides her hand down his spine, petting him gently. He purrs from her touch, which I can relate to.

Been there, Happy. I understand.

This book in the 15^th in the series. But more books intertwine with the series. I love all of K.L.’s books. This one was no different. If you haven’t read that series, you will probably be okay as long as you read Tongue’s Target first. This is a continuation of that book at the least. Daphne still doesn’t remember. Tongue has been patient and is willing to do whatever it takes. But maybe just maybe they need to stop trying to get her to remember and just move forward as they are. If she is going to remember it will happen. Focusing on it maybe be in hindering instead of helping. Mercy wants to get to know his daughter as well. The Kings are waiting for them to come home to Las Vegas. They are waiting to find out if her father will be put in jail or not. All these things are weighing on them. They need to just move forward with each other. Tongue doesn’t care if she ever gets her memory back. They can make new memories. They are meant to be together that is all that matters. Tongue is one of my favorite characters in this series. He has been through so much and got just a taste of happiness with his comet. I want him to get everything he wants. He and Daphne are meant for each other. They deserve their happily ever after. I can’t say enough about his series. These characters have such depth and realness to them. I wish I knew these people in real life. These men are ruthless. They all have complicated pasts. They are willing to do whatever they have to for each other and their brotherhood. But when they meet the one who is theirs, they go are willing to go to hell and back for them. I recommend all of K.L.’s books. They are fit together. Badge is next and that book should be extra interesting. I can’t wait. Congrats on another fantastic book K.L. Savage.
