My road to recovery began with Brody—the man who saved my life.
Without his courage and determination, I’d have died in the fire that took the lives of my entire family. If that’s not a hero, I don’t know what is.
Brody has been by my side every step…but the emotional scars are as crippling as the physical ones, even if they’re harder to see. The anxiety of being around people, seeing their disgust, feeling their pity—I’m not sure I can handle it.
Maybe it’s wrong, but feelings are developing between us, leading to stolen glances and sneaky kisses. The problem is I’m not quite eighteen, he’s twenty-five, and we’re living under someone else’s roof. It would be so much simpler with someone my own age, like Bennett, the hottest guy in school.
How can Brody and I possibly be together? And if we were, how would we explain all this to our friends and Brody’s family—who also happen to be my foster parents? I’ve already lost so much…but can I lose someone who shouldn’t even be mine?

This is the first book I have read by R. Linda and I enjoyed it. It is the fifth book in the series but they can be read as standalone books. I myself haven’t read the other books in the series and wasn’t confused. I was a little hesitant because of the age difference between Audrey and Brody. Mainly because she was so young but after I started reading it wasn’t a problem anymore. Audrey has been through so much both physically and mentally. She lost her whole family in a fire and barely survived herself. Then there was the recovery from the fire. Now she must a face a world without her parents or sister. Plus, deal with the way she looks now. Brody is the only person Audrey feels comfortable with. At first, they are just friends. He is there for her and doesn’t give her pitying looks, or make her feel different. Then something changes. Can there be something between them? Is what Audrey feeling real or just because he is the only one she feels comfortable? I liked all the characters in this book and can’t wait to go back and read all the other books in this series. I love books where you get to continue to read about the characters once their books are over. Audrey is such a strong character. Stronger than she thinks she is. Brody is a great guy and he does struggle with his feelings over Audrey. He worries what other’s will think. But she is so close to eighteen when they begin to have feelings for each other. I recommend this book if you like a good emotional comedy.
