BLURB
A grumpy bartender learns he’s a dad in Kelly Siskind’s latest Bower Boys romance full of second chances, small-town charm, and steamy, slow-burn heat.
For the last ten years, I’ve been living a lie in witness protection. But the drug cartel that put me there isn’t a threat anymore, so I can have my life back. I should be thrilled, right?
Wrong.
The last thing I want to do is go back home and show everyone how far I’ve fallen. I’m not the high-powered lawyer they all expect me to be. I’m just a guy who slings drinks and scowls at the world.
But then I hear about Max, my ex’s ten-year-old son. My ten-year-old son.
I have to go back now. Figure out how to be a dad. Face the love of my life. Make things right with Sadie and earn her trust. Will she have me—or is it too late to reinvent myself as the man she once loved?

This is the second book in this series. There is a lead into
it near the end of the first book. It does pick up about 8 months after the
first one ends. You could read this as a stand alone but I think they are
better read in order. Desmond is the oldest of the Bower Boys. He had already
started college and was preparing to spend his life with his HS sweetheart
Sadie. Then his life was ripped away from him. Now 10 years later the rug has
been ripped out from under him again. Freedom to go back his old life should
make him happy but instead it just points out everything he has missed. He has
learned he has a son. He missed 10 years of his son’s life. Can he find a way
to make it up to Max. What he wouldn’t give to be a real family with Sophie and
Max. But he has fell so far. He didn’t continue with college. He just kind of
spiraled. He may have been hit the hardest by what happened to them or maybe
just reacted the hardest. How can they be a family when he has no way to
support them? Once again, this book was told from the ML’s perspective. It was
a little on the mopey side for me. Desmond has a habit of focusing on what is
wrong or missing instead of what he has. I think he also worries about how
others will perceive him or what is expected of him. Rather than talking to the
person. I did enjoy the book. I have read both of them but I don’t know if I
will continue with the series or not. Great job Kelly.
