I have not read the first book in this series but I loved this book. Riccardo is The Capo, second in command to The Don. Riccardo has a tightly held secret. He is in love with The Don's daughter, Lorena and has been for a while. Lorena is also in love with Riccardo. He has been avoiding her advances for years since she came back from boarding school when she was 17. She is The Don's daughter and off limits to anyone in the family. Riccardo is finding it harder and harder to fight his feelings for Lorena. Lorena has set her sights on him and isn't going to give up. She finds it hard to understand why he refuses to be with her. She knows he feels the same way she feels. No man will ever be good enough for her in her father's eyes. She knows that Riccardo is the best man for her. As her father's second he can protect her like no one else. Riccardo slips and gives in for his feelings for Lorena and then immediately regrets it. Lorena decides to get away for a while and takes some classes. When she comes back she is going to put everything out there to Riccardo and if he still refuses she will just have to move on. Will Riccardo finally admit his feeling and take a chance on something with Lorena?
This book has romance, violence, and much more. I felt Lorena's frustration with Riccardo. But, I also understood Riccardo's reasoning. I was totally sucked into this book as soon as I started reading it. I was consumed by Lorena and Riccardo's story. I really like Mafia books and this book didn't disappoint. They are a family and are there for each other. Lorena and Riccardo know that any relationship between them could mean trouble. But they are willing to take that risk to be together. They don't only have to worry about how her father will react they have to worry about any enemies of the family. Their enemies go after what or who they love, for Lorena that puts her at twice the risk, she is The Don's daughter and The Capo's girl. Reading how Riccardo fought his feeling and Lorena kept on showing them was interesting. The other guys in the family are funny but can always be counted on when they are needed. All the characters in this book are great and I can't wait to read more about them. I have added the first book to my TBR list and look forward to future books in this series. Books these ladies are great authors.
