Southern Sweets (Midnight #1.5) +Review

TITLE: Southern Sweets: A Midnight Novel
AUTHOR: Cori Williams
PUBLISHER: Booktrope Publishing

Sugar and spice don’t always play nice—Amelia Emerson learned that the hard way after her heart was snatched straight from her chest. What was done could not be forgotten.
Tanner made his choice, and there was no turning back from the hurt he caused. Amelia is left dealing with the aftermath and trying to juggle the new life she has been handed.
Worn down, she struggles to gain back the confidence she once possessed, and prove to everyone she is able to do things on her own—But when life takes another sharp turn in an unexpected direction, will she be able to let go and start fresh? Or is the pain too unbearable to forget?

This the second book in this series.  They can be read as stand-alone books; I haven't read the first one and I wasn't confused.  This book was so emotional and a bit like ping pong.  Amelia is pregnant with her ex, Tanner's baby.  They were happy together and then one day he just stopped talking to her or coming around.  Turns out he got back together with his ex, Marissa.  Amelia is so hurt she figured once he knew about the pregnancy he might come back but he didn't.  Now two years later they have been doing okay only really communicating when it has anything to do with their daughter, Paisley.  A friend from Amelia's past comes back and asks her out.  Is she ready to move on?  Amelia is still very attracted to Tanner but is beginning to realize that nothing is ever going to happen between them again.  Will Tanner be able to handle seeing Amelia with someone else?  He is back with his wife however he is torn.  Will Amelia and Tanner ever get a chance at being a happy family or will it always be this hard and frustrating?  This book was crazy emotional and at times I had to put it down.  I wanted to crawl in the book so many times and just yell at certain characters.  Amelia was forced to endure so much.  To love someone and then be hurt by them again and again is horrible.  Not to mention the other things that happen to her in the book.  I understand why Tanner did some of the things he did and other times I just wanted to smack him.  Amelia's friend Monroe is great.  This book was a great read and I look forward to reading more books by Cori Williams in the future.  The book in this series, Midnight Ballerina, is on my TBR list now.

Cori Williams is a contemporary romance writer who recently relocated from Michigan to southern living in the mountains of North Carolina. When she's not busy taking care of her three young children and sometimes fourth, aka as her husband, you'll find her tapping away at the keyboard with music blaring and endless amounts of candy fuel at hand. Her love of reading from a very young age transferred over to a love of writing and now the stories are never ending as she creates the happily ever afters for her characters with sometimes bumpy journeys along the way. "Forever isn't always easy."
