Phoenix /fēniks/: (in classical mythology) a unique bird
inhabiting the Arabian Desert that burned itself on a funeral pyre before
rising from the ashes with renewed youth to live through another cycle.
This isn’t mythology, it’s war, and Hendy is left in the
hands of Hell’s cruelest gatekeepers.
His team is killed before his very eyes, and despite his
efforts to save them, he’s captured and subjected to merciless torture—losing
virtually every piece of his identity but his pulse.
After his rescue, he returns home from Afghanistan, saddled
with facing the daunting task of healing his physical scars as well as the
invisible ones—his emotional demons.
Dr. Presley Cole isn’t one to shy away from a challenge.
Embarking on a new journey, she makes it her mission to prove to Hendy that his
life isn’t over; that he’s worthy of love.
Because sometimes even a phoenix needs help to rise…
Out of the Ashes.

My Review
This is the first book I have read by R.C. Boldt and I loved it. This book was fantastic. This book is about a Navy Seal named Hendy who has been through hell and back. He begins to see a chiropractor named Presley. Presley is engaged and no matter how attracted to her Hendy is he doesn’t mess with another man’s woman. Hendy maybe recovering physically but mentally it’s going to take more time. He can’t come to terms with how he looks now. He uses shirts and ball caps to hide himself but Presley maybe just the person to help him begin healing that way as well. Presley is just attracted to him and he is to her. She begins to look at her relationship with her fiancé and if she really wants it. This book was amazing and was so moving. Hendy fought for his country and now must heal in so many ways. It was moving and I felt for him. Presley and her friend Lucia are great characters. They both want to help Hendy and Lucia helps both of them. Kane and Hendy’s other friends are all military in some way as well. They are all recovering in different ways. I can’t say enough about this book, the characters, or the story. I highly recommend this book and also Out of Love (which is about other characters in this book). Fantastic job R.C. Boldt. I look forward to reading more books by her in the future.
