This book is part of the Police and Fire: Operation Alpha series. The books within the series and written by a group of authors. Danny is ex-military and is now a fire fighter. Claire’s is a widowed single mother who has recently moved into a house on her sister’s property. The two meet when Danny comes home to find Claire napping on his couch after letting his brood of dogs out for him while he is stuck on a shift. Danny is immediately taken with her. Once he finds out that she has twin boys that doesn’t scare him off either. Claire hasn’t been with anyone since the death of her husband. Claire finds it hard to believe that a man like Danny would be interested in her and understanding about wanting to take it slow. Danny and his team are investigating a series of arsons involving women and dogs. When it begins to look like the case maybe be related to Danny in some way the team begins to investigate those close to them. Will Danny be able to keep Claire and her sons safe? Someone/s from Danny’s past want payback. This book was a wonderful read. The characters were great. Danny has never wanted to settle down before. He was always upfront with the women he was with but that doesn’t mean that they didn’t hope and wish. Claire has only ever been with her husband. She is finding her way in this next step in her life. I hope to be able to read about the other characters in this book. Fantastic job D.M. Earl. I look forward to reading more by D.M. Earl in the future.
