~ Book Synopsis ~
They walked through the shadows individually. Will they emerge into the light together?
Leading a vagabond life as a curator for a traveling photography exhibit translates to a lot of bad days for Rikki Salerno. But her trouble doubles when a careless high school student shoves her into a marsh. Being rescued by teacher Sam Kerrigan should have made things better, but Rikki’s inability to confess her true identity casts a shadow over their budding affair.
When Sam refuses an overly aggressive parent’s marriage proposal, she’s determined to ruin him. Not only does she doctor photos to make it look like Sam’s behaved inappropriately in front of students, she hacks the foundation website to reveal Rikki’s true identity. Faster than the blink of a shutter, Rikki’s focus changes from pursuing her full-color future to the black and white necessity of clearing Sam’s name.

~ My Review ~
Rikki Salerno works for the foundation her grandfather started. She
is the curator for a traveling photography exhibit. But, what she really wants is to be
recognized for her photography. While
out trying to get the perfect photo at a location a local high school photography
club shows up while she is taking pictures.
One of the kids runs by her and knocks her off balance and she falls off
the ledge in the water below. The
teacher, Sam Kerrigan, is quick to jump in and save her. While trying to help her up he inadvertently
grabbed her boobs, the kids had a laugh at this. Sam gives her his fleece cover up with and
tells she can return it at the next photography club meeting. Several meeting go by before she finally
shows up. They haven’t been able to stop
thinking about each other. There is only
one problem Sam had applied several times for a grant from the foundation Rikki
works for. Sam is upset that he hasn’t
received any response about his application.
He has called, emailed, and applied 3 times. He thinks the head of the foundation
Marguerite Sims is too busy shopping, getting spa treatments, or being lazy to
answer him. Sam doesn’t know that Rikki
and marguerite are the same person. He
often rants about her. Rikki wants to
tell him her legal name but she is scared he won’t want to be with her
anymore. After one incident when she 19
she is worried about a repeat. There is
a parent, Sherry Hillman, who is set on Sam being her second husband. When she learns that Sam is seeing Rikki she
decides to do something. What will Sam
do when he learns that Rikki and Marguerite are the same person? What will the Sherry do to Sam?
I haven’t read the other books in this series but I loved
this one and will be adding the others to my TBR list. Rikki and Sam have an immediate connection. Its more than just lust, they are completely
comfortable with each and always have something to talk about. They can’t stop thinking about each
other. They fall fast for each
other. Rikki loves helping with the
photography club. She stands up for the
one girl Katie who is being bullied by the other kids. She knows how Katie feels because she was
bullied as a child. Rikki and her
brother Gunnar are very close and talk often.
So much happens between Rikki and Sam.
I don’t want to give any spoilers away but this book is great and the
connection that Rikki and Sam share is fantastic. The book is wonderfully written and the
characters are engaging.
~ About the Author ~
Gemma's favorite desk accessories for many years were a circular wooden token, better known as a 'round tuit,' and a slip of paper from a fortune cookie proclaiming her a lover of words; some day she'd write a book. All it took was a transfer to the United Kingdom, the lovely English springtime, and a huge dose of homesickness to write her first novel. Once it was completed and sent off with a kiss, even the rejections addressed to 'Dear Author' were gratifying.
After returning to America, she spent a number of years as a copywriter, dedicating her skills to making insurance and the agents who sell them sound sexy. Eventually, her full-time job as a writer interfered with her desire to be a writer full-time and she left the world of financial products behind to pursue an avocation as a romance author.
