Synopsis:

Kate doesn’t believe Jesse, the only man to make her seethe one minute and lust after him the next, when he approaches her with a note from the Facilitator stating someone he loved would die shortly, and he knows in his gut it’s Kate. After a second attempt on her life, she can no longer fight his protection or her attraction to him.
After making a mistake that cost his wife her life, Jesse vowed to never love again, but Kate stirs something in him that puts his protective instincts into overdrive. I really liked this book and can't wait to read more in the series. There was depth to the characters. I felt for them and couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen to them next. I was pulling for Kate and Jesse. They both had been through so much in their lives and were scared to let someone completely in and take that leap. Jesse had already lost a wife and was determined to never let someone in like that again for fear he would lose them again. He has lots of guilt over his wife's death. Kate's paternal parents died when she was very young. Its the reason she became on FBI agent. A couple adopted her and raised her as if she was their own even though they already had a daughter of their own. She may not have had the most loving of a childhood but it wasn't bad either. She longs for a family and everything that comes with it. She is attracted to Jesse but he irritates her so much. Jesse thought that by making her mad at him that is would be easier to less attracted to her but the opposite happened. He wanted her more. Now that she is in danger he can't help himself. He will not lose another women. They need to figure out if she was the target or if Jesse was. Jesse has his men on. He doesn't care that the FBI is on the case also, he is sure that his men are better and will get the answer faster. Watching them slowly figure out their feeling for each other was wonderful. They both wanted to wait till they were sure how the other felt before they fully committed or told the other their feelings. I fully expect to love the other books in the series as much as this one. It was a fantastic book. I could go on but I don't want to give any spoilers away. There are twists and turns that I didn't expect at all. Jesse's family is so close and all work together it was wonderful to see. I hope to read more about Jesse and Kate in the other books as well. This book was a great start to the series.
