Jake Weston had led a simple life, ever since he was called home from war for a family emergency four years ago, leaving only him and Hallie. Then one phone call throws his neatly-pieced world upside down.

Jake wasn’t supposed to be there. This wasn’t his problem. But as soon as those piercing green eyes focused in on him, he knew he was done for.

Can Jake hold onto his secret, all the while still holding onto Lana?

Will Lana be able to let go of the past and the hurt that binds her to her lonely existence?

Or will one small white lie ruin it all?

My Review

This is the third book in the series and I think you need to read them in order to really understand what is happening and how everyone is connected.  This book is about facing the things that happened in your past and figuring out how to move forward.  Realizing that you can’t change what happened.  Finding that one person who makes realize that you want to learn how to move forward and find a way to have a future with that person.  Jake is in the Army and lost his wife 4 years ago.  He is a single father who hasn’t even dated anyone in the last four years.  Lana has recently gotten away from and divorced her abusive husband.  Lana and Jake meet when Jake’s friend rescues Lana from her house that has caught on fire.  Jake’s friend calls him and tells him to come help him.  He can’t be caught there.  He wants Jake to say he rescued Lana.  When Lana opens her eyes Jake feels this overwhelming urge to protect her and be near here.  They have a one night stand and don’t think they will ever see each other again.  Three months later when Jake takes his daughter to her first day of school he is surprised to find that Lana is his daughter’s teacher.  Lana can’t believe her eyes when she sees Jake dropping his daughter off in her classroom.  They haven’t stopped thinking about each other for the last three months.  This is where the story takes off.  Lana is still finding herself after everything that happened with her ex-husband.  Jake learned to go after what he wanted in the army and to never give up.  Lana feels like she loses anyone she loves and is scared to love Jake and his daughter and then lose them.  Will Lana take and chance on Jake?  Will Jake be able to convince Lana to give him a chance?  I love this whole series.  This book was just as great as the first two books in this series.  The characters have been through so much but they find a way to overcome it and move forward.  They don’t give up sometimes they need help from their friends and family to see what they have to could have.  I love that you get to read about the characters in the previous book in the future ones.  I can’t wait to read the next book when it comes out.  Stephanie is a great author.  She writes wonderful stories with fantastic characters.  The characters pull you and make you wish that they were real so you could maybe friends with them.  I can’t say enough about Stephanie and her books.
