TITLE: LAST TRUE HERO
AUTHOR: DIANA GARDIN
GENRE: ROMANCE
For seven years he’s fought for his country. Now he’ll fight for her.
Army Ranger Dare Conners has been through hell. He’s left combat behind, yet the memories that refuse to fade are proving just as dangerous. Ordered to take R&R, he joins his buddy for beaches, beers, and babes—if that can’t cure him, nothing will. But when he meets Berkeley, a woman who affects him like no one else, a new kind of battle begins . . .
An Admiral’s daughter, Berkeley knows her life has been planned since birth. The right school, the right boyfriend—and now that she’s graduated—the right marriage. But after years of being right, Berkley is ready to be a little wrong. And Dare Conners has wrong written all over him. The sexy soldier has a body built for sin and secrets he won’t share. What starts as a fling quickly grows into something more. But summer can’t last forever, and when the truth comes out, both Berkeley and Dare could be in for quite a fall.
This book is a great read and I truly enjoyed it. I have read another of Diana’s series and
loved it. I picked up this book because
of that without a second thought.
Berkeley is an Admiral’s daughter.
Her whole life has been planned for her by her parents. She finds herself lucky that she got to
choose what college she went to and what degree she got. Fresh from college her parents are determined
for her to marry the man they have picked for her and start what they believe
her life should be. Berkeley doesn’t
want to do anyone of that. Then she
meets a man named Dare and the restaurant she works at. She turns him down before he can even ask her
out. She knows he is military and she
has sworn off military guys. After all
she doesn’t want to be with the man her parents picked out for her and she has
known him her whole life and he is her best friend so why would she choose a
completely stranger over him. But, Dare
is different and eventually she does give him her number and he doesn’t waste
any time using it. Dare has lived a very
difficult life. He grew up in the foster
care system and joined the military when he turned 18. The men in his unit are the only real family
he has had in a long beside a foster brother.
He recently got out the military and has to find his way in life after
being a Ranger. A fellow military
brother invites him to come live with him and work at his garage. When Dare finally caved and took his friend
up on his offer he never expected to find the girl who would turn his world
upside down. Berkeley took Dare breath
away the first time he meet her and he knew then that she gave him a shot
everything for him would change.
Berkeley’s life is complicated because of her parents. She knows she shouldn’t be hanging out with
Dare but for once someone gets her. He
does all kinds of things just to make her happy, he isn’t doing things expecting
her to react a certain way or to get something for himself. He makes her happy, makes her feel safe and
free at the same time. Dare hasn’t
shared all of himself with Berkeley yet and knows when he does his secrets
could cause problems. Will they be able
to make it work? Will Berkeley stand up
to her father and fight for her own happiness?
This book was great. There was
that part in the middle where you are begging them to just take and get over
the misunderstanding that happened. They
are both hurting so much and if they just talked everything could be resolved
and fixed. Berkeley’s friend Grisham
kind of annoyed me. I truly believed
that he cared for her but the only reason he pushed for more was before of
their father’s wanting them to be more.
I was made that he was so easily swayed by what their parents wanted and
allowed himself to be manipulated and then in turn did the same thing to
Berkeley. All the characters in this
book were great. I can’t wait for the
second book. There is a sneak peek at
the end of this one. This book pulled at
my heart strings. Dare was so worried
that he wasn’t good enough for Berkeley.
When in fact he was the only who truly got her besides her friend
Mae. Another fantastic job Diana, keep
it up.
Diana Gardin was born and raised combing the coasts of Southeastern Virginia. She is now a happy resident of South Carolina as she married into an enormous Carolina-rooted family. She loves the beach, and even more than that she loves to read while sitting on the beach.
While writing was always a passion of Diana’s, she enrolled in college to become an elementary-school teacher. After eight years of teaching in both Virginia and South Carolina, she decided to stay at home with her first child. This decision is what opened her eyes to the fact that she still very much loved to write, and her first novel was born. Diana is the author of several works of New Adult Romance, including The Ashes Series, The Nelson Island Series, and the Battle Scars Series.
