Island Escape by Viv Daniels
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Kalina is on a yacht vacation with her boyfriend and their friends. She and all her friends aboard the yacht and rich and young. They should be happy, but they aren’t. They use drugs and are only really happy when they are making someone else unhappy. Kalina’s parents died when she was young and then she was raised by her grandfather until he fell ill. After that there wasn’t anyone to really care what she did. Adam is a deck hand who lived a sheltered life on a farm in Arizona. When he turned 18 he went to college much to the disappointment of his family. He took this job to see more of the world and help pay for his next year of college. He never expected for his father’s lessons on how to survive the end of the world to come in handy on the boat. After getting into an argument with her boyfriend Kalina got a bottle of alcohol and climbed into one of the life boats. Adam was cleaning up a mess and noticed some doors open when he was putting things away. After some looking around he found the pirates had boarded the yacht and were holding all passengers hostages and had killed all the crew except for him. He got his go bag and then headed for the life boats. He got in the same life boat and Kalina and took off. Now they are stranded at sea. They are at sea for a while and then they find an island. At least now they have may have clean water and some food. How long will they last? Will they ever be found? I liked this book. Kalina realized very quickly that the things she thought she was best at didn’t really matter in the real world. So what if she could party for days, and walk perfectly in 6 inch heels. Adam was taught to kill and skin an animal, how to live off the land, some medical care, how to build shelters. Those things were what was really important in their situation. Kalina realized how much better he was than the boys she normally fell for. She found herself falling for Adam. Adam found Kalina attractive but he held himself back from doing anything with her. There was nothing special about him after all, what could she possibly see in him. I couldn’t imagine being stranded at sea and then on a deserted island. I probably would die relatively fast compared. Being stranded at sea and then on the island was probably the best thing that could have happened to Kalina. It taught her what was important in life and how to survive. She really grew and matured on the island. I am excited to read the next book in this series.
I was given this book in return for an honest review.
