My Review

Braelynn didn’t have the best childhood.  Her sister, Loren did everything she could to protect her from their uncle.  Brae and Lo live with their aunt and uncle after their parents died in a car accident.  Her uncle took an interest in Lo.  When Lo turned 18 she went to the cops with what had been happening to her at night.  Her aunt signed over custody of Braelynn to her if she didn’t pursue any legal action against her uncle.  Lo moved them away and got a job to support them.  16 years later Braelynn is getting ready to start a mentorship with one of her professors.  It is a highly coveted mentorship.  She and her friend are going out to celebrate her getting it.  She meets Haas while she is out celebrating.  She was not impressed by him at first.  After pursuing her all night she gives in and goes home with him only to reach his apartment and realize that it is the home she cleaned earlier and she believes that she just fouled around with someone’s husband.  Only to find out on Monday that she will that she will assist her professor with a case that Haas is the opposing attorney.  She can’t believe her luck.  Braelynn has only ever worried about getting good grades and getting a good job.  Meeting Haas could change everything.  She is so confused about her feelings for him and this just makes it worse.  She does learn that she didn’t mess with someone’s husband though so that is something.  I really like this story.  Braelynn is slightly sheltered because of what happened with her and her sister.  Her sister did her best to keep her focused and school and the future.  Haas has never had to chase a woman but there is something about Braelynn.  He finds himself doing things he wouldn’t normally do.  Neither of them do serious relationships but they find themselves falling in love none the less.  Reading how they come together and overcome their pasts is great.  Seeing Haas causes some friction between Brae and her friend/roommate Kennedy.  They are worried that she is going to get side tracked by him and possibly ruin her future.  This story was wonderfully written and I love the characters.  I am excited to read the next book in the series.  I will be watching for other books by Livia in the future.

My Review

Braelynn wakes up in the hospital with a week missing from her memories.  Everyone who cares about her is there when she wakes up especially Peyton Haas.  She should be happy they found her and got her to the hospital but she isn’t.  No one believes that she was taken.  He blood work shows that she is addicted to drugs.  The have receipts and video footage of her during the week she was missing.  She doesn’t understand.  She knows she was taken but she only remembers bits and pieces.  Why won’t her loved ones believe her?  She finally gets to go home and she can’t take it anymore she leaves a note and tells them she will call them she just needs some time to herself.  Only she doesn’t plan on starting over so much as escaping into her own little world.  Will everyone give up on her or will they patiently wait for her to find her way back to them?  How will Peyton handle this?

Braelynn goes through so much in this book.  It’s a wonder she makes it through at all.  I can only imagine what it felt like.  You wake up in hospital knowing you were taken and things were done to you but no one else believes you.  It was a lot for them all to hear at once.  Peyton is frustrated at first.  She is made at him because he didn’t instantly believe her.  He did believe her but he didn’t know what to think of the situation.  Then Peyton is pissed when she doesn’t want to let him back in even more when she takes off and doesn’t contact him.  Finally he can’t take it anymore and becomes determined to help her get back to the person she was before.  Her friends are there for her too.  I am excited to read the next book in the series to see what happens next.

EXCERPT

She lay naked on the white linen sheet, her golden blonde hair fanned out across her pillow. She had been my all, the one to come into my life, cause havoc, and claim my heart. She had been my everything. My greatest desire. The fuel that pumped through my veins.

The sun beamed down on her skin, glistening on her flawless fair body. Almost flawless anyway.

The marks from our recent times in the playroom were still visible, her wrists that were tucked under her chin revealing a crimson burn from her pulling on the restraints. Her plump breast scarred from the lashes of the flogger, and her upper thighs holding the same marks as her breast.

I was terrified at the pain I had caused her, but horrified that I wanted to cause more.

Braelynn had repeated over and over that she loved the marks and the pleasures they gave her. Since she had rejected my proposal, I began to feel that she was slipping away. The grasp I had over her was fading and my need for her had been replaced with rage and want. I needed to punish her for saying no, whip her flesh when I felt her slipping out of my hands. Though I was sickened once we were done, massaging the welts kissing them with my love, I reveled in her moans and her screams of pleasure made me hungry for more.

She had turned me into the monster I now was. Possessive, demanding, and hungrier for her than I had ever been. Her arousal when I slid deep inside her had me on the brink of losing myself. The way she came around me, choking my cock … it was indescribable. But when she bowed her head, her blonde hair covering her face as she submitted to me, that had my inner Dom crawling out of my body, wanting to take full reign over hers.

And I did.

For the past six weeks she’d spent every night with me, letting me have full possession of her weak body. But the nagging voice in my head kept saying that our time was limited.

“You’re doing it again,” she whispered, her voice filled with exhaustion. Her eyes peered open when she spoke.

I leaned forward, kissing the tip of her nose. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I lied.

“Yes, you do. You’re thinking so loud I can hear it in my sleep.”

“Lynn—”

“Stop it!” Her eyes flashed open, and a sea of green and brown specks pierced me. “You aren’t hurting me.”

I shook my head, completely disagreeing with her. “Look at the bruises on your skin.” I traced my hand over her soft breast.

“I have a safe word and I have yet to use it.” She pulled the cover over her blemished flesh and turned on her side.

She hadn’t used it yet…

But would she?
