This is the second book in the Kingpin Love Affair Series. This book picks up right where the last one left off. We were left wondering if Zerro would believe Mack and kill Bree. I personally thought the two options were the Zerro would shot Bree or Mack I was wrong. Mack winds up shooting Zerro and taking Bree. Zerro calls Jared and tells him that he has been shot several times and that Mack has taken Bree. All Zerro is worried about is Bree. How could he have been so stupid to believe Mack. But, then again he was one of his most trusted men. Zerro now has to figure out how to get Bree back and kill Mack. No one disrespects the King and no one takes what is his. Zerro is frustrated; he wants to do be doing something to get Bree back not sitting in this bed healing. Bree is being held by Mack in a hole in the ground. Her captures like to degrade her and tell her all the things they want to do to her. Then one day she starts yelling back at one of them and he throws down a ladder and tells to prove it. Once she gets out he tells her to punch him and make it look real then tells her to run. She gets back to Zerro but will that be the beginning of the end. They still have Mack and the FBI after them. Plus there are lots of secrets, lies, and truths to be set free. Bree winds up having to deal with lots of things that she never though she would have to deal with. Is Zerro going to be able to help her or is hurting her by just being with her. He loves her more than anything but is his love the very thing that is destroying her. What will they do now? They are both bent on vengeance. Bree is no longer the naïve girl she once was. The constant hiding is weighing on them all. Will Bree and Zerro get their happily ever after? Will there plan work or will Bree be hurt yet again? Will Zerro choose Bree over the life he currently lives?
This book had lots of twists and turns. I loved how much Bree grew and changed. She was once this naïve girl who didn’t realize all the bad things that happened in the world. While she still has a hard time processing it she knows it happens and that she has to do deal with it. She is no longer afraid, she stands on her own two feet and wants to do her part. Zerro changes in this book also. He still has that hard part about him but he realizes that if he wants to have a forever with Bree he needs to make a choice. His whole life has been hard but he has only had to look out for himself. Now he has Bree to worry about too. He helps her work through her anger the only way he knows how too. He may not be good at relationships but he is willing to do whatever it takes to be with Bree. He has his doubts at times. He knows that by loving her he is also putting her through all this heartbreak and danger. He needs to love her enough to let her go if necessary. Bree wants to hate Zerro and be made at him but a part of her loves him no matter what. They have a hard path to follow but they will be stronger and better on the other side. Lots of truths are revealed in this book. Things I never saw coming. I love J.L. Beck. I have read all her books and look forward to more books by her. Great Job.
I was given this book in return for an honest review.
